Chicago, Ill. (Tuesday, February 9, 2010)- Two players from the Big Ten have committed to play for the Chicago Red Eleven, Erin Jacobsen from University of Wisconsin and Danielle Kot from University of Illinois, pending on the United Soccer Leagues’ final approval.
“I have known both Jacobsen and Kot for a number years and I’m looking forward to having both of them on the team,” said Head Coach David Nikolic. “They will bring great leadership and talent to the field.”
Jacobsen, from Wheaton, Ill. started all games for the Badgers as a freshman and a sophomore. She was named to the 2008 Big Ten All-Freshman team and to the USL National Select team in January of 2008. Jacobsen played for the Ohio Elite and help led them to the 2007 USL Super Y-League North American Championship.
“Erin has a great work ethic, a lot of knowledge about the game and I expect her to contribute a lot from the midfield,” said Nikolic. “Danielle is also a great leader and will bring a lot of intangibles to the field.”
Along with Jacobsen, Kot from Brookfield, Wisc. was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team. Kot was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer All-Rookie First team and to the Soccer Buzz All-Freshman Great Lakes Region. As a sophomore, Kot was named to the second team All-Big Ten, the Soccer Buzz All-Great Lakes Region Second Team. She was also named to the Academic All-Big Ten.
“This year we will be looking forward to showcasing the talent the Midwest has to offer,” explained Nikolic. “This region has very talented players and both Jacobsen and Kot were at the top of the list.
The Chicago Red Eleven will kick off their season on May 29, against the Buffalo Flash at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex.
